A peek into my thoughts on writing through last year…
July 27, 2018 – I read recently a statement that made perfect sense when I read it, but it isn’t something that I had consciously thought about before. “Writers write every day.” It seems like common sense really, and can be applied to every aspect – readers read every day, teachers teach, the list could go on. In my heart of hearts, my dream of dreams, I’ve always wanted to be a writer. To think of having a book published or to see my name on a bookshelf makes my heart beat fast. So, step one… I should write… every day. Today begins this new beginning. Maybe most days I’ll use this avenue of a typed journal, maybe other days I’ll write with pen and paper. I don’t want to let myself off easy like I have before (writing a grocery list, a text message, or a note doesn’t count). Thoughts to paper – that’s what matters.
Today, I could write a list of what we’ve done or read over the summer, I could tell about my walk this morning or my continued struggle with my weight, but I’ll not. I’ll be satisfied that I’ve shared my goal for a next right step. Writing. Everyday.
September 4, 2018 – Perhaps I should have titled this “slightly more than once a week writing”? It is almost a week after my last writing session. Like last time, I brought my laptop along and am squeezing in a few moments away from home. They say changing scenery aids in creativity…
September 21, 2018 – First, confession: oh my, it’s been SEVERAL days since I wrote, but I think a resolution or commitment is better to be picked back up after dropping it, than just left on the floor. A few days ago, I had an “aha” moment while reading a post from Emily P. Freeman’s blog or Instagram story, I’m not sure which (side note: her style and writing have spoken to me for years, but lately so much of what I’ve heard from her has resonated). She said, “writing anywhere counts as writing”. She was specifically responding to someone who said they were only writing on Instagram and wondered if that counted as being a writer. I love the thought that writing anywhere counts as writing. It got be started thinking (again) and the commitment it takes to blog and write a book.
Many Blessings, Bethany
